VIRTUAL CONCERT PRODUCTION

Long before the COVID-19 pandemic forced many organizations to pivot to ‘virtual’ content, essentially audiovisual representations of their art forms to be consumed by audiences at home, Freck had the good fortune to work on old-school TV broadcasts.

Starting in 1996 with CBS affiliate KOIN-TV in Portland with three thrilling programs, one of which won a Regional Emmy Award, and on to a moving broadcast marking the 10th Anniversary of 9/11 with CBS affiliate WRAL-TV in Raleigh, and then on to the seven Soundwaves and three Symphonic series virtual concerts that Eugene Symphony released in 2021 during the height of the pandemic, Freck learned how to make good images that combine with great audio to tell a powerful story.

Examples below written and produced by Scott Freck include:

  • Terry Riley: In C (excerpt including footage of Eugene’s outdoor murals)

  • Dmitri Shostakovich: Chamber Symphony (excerpts with explication)

  • Maurice Ravel: La valse (excerpt)
